Pete's proposed event outline
Pete Forsyth, David Bovill, Inger-Mette Stenseth, Sherry Antoine, Lane Rasberry discussed hosting an event January 15 to celebrate the occasion and to convene a group interested in working on wikis, for part of a day or for a few months, on the topic of climate change and environmental justice.
VIMEO 505665779 Wikipedia's 20th Birthday Open Space
Pete sketched out a general approach in this Google Doc . (It should probably be migrated here, but let's get Lane and Sherry on FedWiki before we do.)
Samer has created a HackMD document as well, will add a link here.
To do
- Choose a title (Suggestion: One World Birthday) - Articulate vision (announcement/invitation text) - Identify and recruit speakers - Identify and recruit an Open Space facilitator - Draft general guidelines on how to host a session
Possible sessions
- Footballs are Complex - News On Wiki session (Sherry, Pete, Lane) - Obeya (Samer? Inger-Mette?) - Wikifying Neighbourhoods (Marc)
Notes from before
In January 2021 Wikipedia will celebrate its 20th birthday; this roughly coincides with 25 years of wiki, 10 years of FedWiki, 10 years of Wikidata, and 10 years of Wiki Strategies.
Wikipedians around the world celebrated Wikipedia's 15th birthday with a lot of coordinated events. Pete was one of the planners of the San Francisco event, and moderated a panel discussion. Overview and San Francisco
Wikipedia @20 is a recent book of essays to commemorate the occasion. Pete wrote a chapter, called "Trusting Everybody to Work Together," which expands on the ideas presented here as Forsyth Criteria.
