In 2021 we will mark several milestones in the evolution of people-centered collaborative Internet technologies:
- Wiki software's 25th Birthday - Wikipedia's 20th Birthday - Federated Wiki and Wikidata approach their 10th Birthdays
Wiki was 25 in March 2021. Her birthday is March 25. She was born in 1995 the same year as my daughter. We should celebrate her becoming each year in the new fashion to which we have become accustomed.
These technologies all support the ability of individuals and otherwise disconnected communities around the world to collaborate. We will celebrate the occasion, and explore our ability to work together for a common purpose, with the "One World Birthday" event on January 15. We will focus on a topic relevant to the entire world: environmental sustainability.
One World Birthday will be an free, online "Open Spaces" conference. We invite participants to propose sessions, in which they can discuss and/or begin to use wikis to develop content about the environment and climate change.
Wiki's Birthday is a date worth celebrating. Let's do this each year with a Happening - that is a Decentralised Research Event happening at different places around the world where we simply practice writing together in wiki - Any Wiki.
# Let's celebrate
Wiki will be 25 in March 2020. Wikipedia will be 20 in January 2020. Let's release the first Map of the Federation and a Map of Wiki in 2020. We can launch the idea on 25 March 2019 - inviting various artists, graphing and wiki people and projects to the event.
